Canadian Visitor Visas are issued to tourist or business visits to Canada where the foreign worker will not enter or participate in the Canadian labour market.

1. Visitor Visa Overview

A Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) allows individuals to visit Canada for short durations, typically for tourism, visiting family or friends, or conducting business activities.

Eligibility

  • You must demonstrate your intention to leave Canada at the end of your stay.

  • You must show proof of sufficient financial support for the duration of your visit.

  • You must have no criminal record and pose no security risk.

  • If married or in a common-law relationship, both parents or grandparents can be included in the same application.

2. Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

An eTA is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to your passport.

Eligibility:

  • You must be a citizen of a visa-exempt country.

  • You must not have a criminal record or immigration
    violations.

3. Extending Your Stay in Canada

If you wish to remain in Canada beyond your authorized stay:

  • Apply at least 30 days before your current visa or permit expires.

  • Submit an application to extend your visitor status online or
    by paper.

4. Switching Status – From Visitor to Worker or Student

  • Apply for the appropriate work permit or study permit before your current status expires.

5. Super Visa – For Parents and Grandparents

The Super Visa enables parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit.

Eligibility:

  • Must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Must apply from outside Canada.

  • Must demonstrate the intent to leave Canada at the end of the visit and have adequate financial support.

6. Business Visitors

Business visitors may require either a Visitor Visa or an eTA, depending on their nationality. Document Requirements is below:

  • Invitation letter from a Canadian business.

  • Proof of business activities and purpose of the trip.

  • Evidence of strong ties to your home country.

7. Transit Through Canada

If you are transiting through Canada en route to another country, you may require a transit visa or an eTA. Document Requirements is below:

  • Valid transit visa or eTA (based on your nationality).

  • Proof of onward travel to a third country.
