Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must meet the criteria of one of the three federal programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Work Experience

  • At least 1 year of continuous, paid, full-time work (or equivalent part-time).
  • Experience in a skilled occupation classified under NOC 0, A, or B.
  • Must be within the last 10 years.

Language Proficiency

  • Must meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels depending on your stream.
  • Accepted tests:
  • English → IELTS General Training, CELPIP General.
  • French → TEF Canada, TCF Canada.
  • Equivalency is required → Only valid, approved test results are accepted.

Education

  • Canadian high school diploma or higher, or
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming foreign education equivalency.

Proof of Funds

Required unless you have a valid job offer or are already legally working in Canada.

Admissibility

You must not be inadmissible to Canada for medical, criminal, or security reasons.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

Express Entry candidates are ranked using the CRS, which awards points in several categories:

  • Human Capital Factors → Age, education, language skills, Canadian work experience (up to 500 points).
  • Skill Transferability → Combination of foreign work experience, education, and language skills (up to 100 points).
  • Provincial Nomination → +600 points.
  • Arranged Employment → 50–200 points depending on NOC level.

Express Entry draws occur every few weeks. The top candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), giving them 60 days to submit a complete PR application.
